In January, a sunless tanning salon in Frontenac opened and offered the cutting-edge technology of the VersaSpa sunless tanning system.
Jana Beykirch, the owner of Body Bronzing LLC, said when she opened her business she researched tanning methods and opted for spray technology.
“I’ve chosen to do my salon completely UV-free,” she said.
She said this is conducive to all skin types, including sensitive skin, and creates the appearance of a healthy, natural tan.
“It’s really available to everybody,” she said.
The business features the one VersaSpa unit and Beykirch said it is her goal to be entirely appointment-based by the summer because of the nature of sunless tanning.
She said sunless tanning is quick and convenient, but does require some planning ahead.
Tanners can’t wear makeup or lotion, and can’t shower for at least five hours following the procedure.
However, the transformation is instantaneous and, depending on skin pH balance, the tan will last for five to seven days.
Beykirch said the VersaSpa’s tanning solution includes walnut and beet extracts which help create a bronzed tone rather than the orange color that has been associated with sunless tanning.
Beykirch said it is a more natural solution and prevents UV exposure, but that sunscreen still is required when being exposed to real rays.
“This is not any kind of protection when you’re in the sun or UV rays,” she said.
She said the VersaSpa system is very user-friendly and offers a four-minute, voice-guided procedure in which tanners can choose between three tones.
