The Senate version of the Violence Against Women Act passed in the House of Representatives today after a Republican version was defeated, CNN reports.
The Violence Against Women Act was originally passed in 1994 and has been reauthorized since. The GOP version of the bill removed provisions that helped prosecution of crimes against women on Indian reservations and helped include LGBT and undocumented women. This version was voted down 166-257. The Senate version was then passed with unanimous support from House Democrats and 87 Republicans.
