Woman pleads guilty to stealing from Frontenac church

The woman accused of stealing more than $74,000 from a Frontenac church pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of mail fraud.

In her plea, Lanora Michelle Driskill Spigarelli, 43, admitted she embezzled $74,027 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she worked as the business manager.

The crime occurred from January 2006 to September 2007. Spigarelli placed stolen money in the U.S. mail when she used it to pay her personal bills, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Sentencing is set for Oct. 5. Spigarelli faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
