The 29th annual Mount Carmel Foundation Gala really had something to celebrate Saturday.
In 2010 the foundation made a pledge to raise $1.2 million of the $8.2 million for the Women’s Services Initiative for Via Christi Hospital. In the project, the entire third floor of Via Christi Hospital was renovated into a state-of-the-art facility for the care of women and newborns.
“Tonight we presented a check for $275,000 to Via Christi Hospital, our final payment to Via Christi for the women’s center,” said Duane Dreiling, Mount Carmel Foundation executive director.
He added that the foundation is now looking to the future.
“Our focus for the next couple of years will be to grow our endowment,” Dreiling said. “In 1996 the foundation established the Legacy Society as an endowed fund within the foundation, to provide funding for the longterm. Tonight we will launch our ‘Building Our Legacy Campaign’. Via Christi is building the new surgical center for the future, and we’re also building to ensure that we can provide quality health care in the future.”
Theme of the event was “An Evening in Paris.” Guests were greeted with a small replica of the Eiffel Tower in white lights, and Jay Gilchrist, vice president of mission integration, delivered the invocation in French. A silent auction was held.
Jack Overman, longtime community supporter, said it was truly a gala occasion.
“I haven’t missed one of these since they started having them,” he said. “It’s a very nice way to raise some funds.”
