It’s a familiar face for PSU in a new role.
Pittsburg State University President Steve Scott has announced the selection of Angela Neria as the new chief information officer (CIO) for the university. Neria is currently the chief information officer for the Joplin, Mo., School District. Neria will assume her duties at PSU on April 29.
Pittsburg State public relations director Ron Womble said the CIO position is newly created and will raise the education technology and communication departments to the President’s Council.
“Angela brings with her a tremendous wealth of experience,” Scott said. “We’re confident she’s the right person to lead this critical facet of the university and we’re excited to count her as a member of the PSU staff. The search committee deserves our thanks for all their hard work on this very important task. We had some great candidates and in the end were able to select someone who is a perfect fit for the position and the campus.”
At PSU, Neria will lead the Information Services Department and provide leadership and management for the university’s information technology environment.
This won’t be the first time Neria has been at Pittsburg State.
Neria earned a bachelor’s in business administration from PSU, majoring in marketing and economics. Later, she earned both a master’s in business administration and an education specialist’s degree in higher education with an emphasis in educational technology, both from Pittsburg State.
“Pittsburg State has played a huge role in my life,” Neria said. “I have earned three degrees from PSU, worked on campus throughout earning those degrees, met my husband while attending PSU, and have had the honor of serving on various advisory boards and collaborative projects with PSU. I am excited to now have the opportunity to serve as the university’s Chief Information Officer.”
Neria has been with the Joplin School District for more than 10 years. There, she is responsible for developing, training, and the oversight of both comprehensive educational and operational technology programs, serving more than 7,600 students and 1,100 faculty and staff members.
Neria has developed a reputation as a leader in educational technology as an experienced presenter at both state and national conferences. She also has been instrumental in winning numerous educational technology grants for the Joplin School District.
Neria and her husband, Richard, who holds two degrees from PSU, live in Carl Junction, Mo., where Richard is a mathematics teacher and coach at Carl Junction High School. They have three children: Brooks, 10; Bryn, 7; and Breckyn, 4.
