Kansas Attorney General Steven Six says he is pushing for changes in a law that regulates cemetery trust funds.
Six says he's working with Kansas Secretary of State's office to draft legislation to change reporting requirements for the funds.
The effort was prompted by a case of a Hutchinson cemetery operator accused of embezzling cemetery trust funds. Testimony in the case revealed that it took the state three years to uncover the alleged embezzlement.
Six says the changes he's proposing would allow the state to get involved in such cases earlier and start investigations more quickly.
