Oliver Palmer from Waterloo, Iowa, is a 10-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Pediatric Brainstem Cancer on December 23, 2009. He has undergone many treatments to help stop the brain tumor. The doctors had it stopped, only to fine out later on that is growing once again and can’t be stopped.

All Oliver wanted this year for Christmas was for people to send him Christmas cards and to see how many he could receive this year. Marcia Gard, SPMS Language Arts teacher, decided to have her students send Christmas cards to Oliver. They had the opportunity to either make a Christmas card or take that week’s spelling test. Most all of the students decided to send Oliver a card. Mrs. Gard also sent Oliver a St. Paul t-shirt which had all of the students’ signatures on it.

Even with Oliver’s diagnosis, he still feels the need to go out and help other children going through similar problems as himself. By sending these cards to Oliver, his friends and family are hoping it will lift his spirits this Christmas season and show him that he has touched other people.
