Brent Vitt, an 8th grader at St. Paul Middle School, competed in the Labette County Spelling Bee in Parsons, Kansas. Winning that contest allowed Brent to represent Labette County at the state competition in Great Bend, Kansas March 17th. There will be 75 counties competing that day. If Brent wins at state, he will travel to Washington, D.C. The word that sent Brent to state was “potassium”.
Brent said, “I hope I make it past state because I have never really traveled anywhere outside of Kansas.” Brent also was very excited to have won but didn't expect it. When asked if he had studied for the County Bee, Brent said, “No, I did not, but my Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Gard, is going to make me study for the State competition.”
