THE TRIBAL STAR

Kindergarteners Abbey Warstler, Tommy Huber, and Brandon Franklin are pictured with their drawings of the things they liked best at Greenbush. For most of the students, the astronaut ice cream was a favorite.

The St. Paul kindergarten, first and second grades recently went on a field trip to the Greenbush Southeast Kansas Education Service Center to broaden their knowledge about the universe.

On the trip, the students learned primarily about the moon, sun and constellations while participating in educational activities that were both enjoyable and beneficial. The students discovered where to find the Big Dipper and got to design their own constellations on a computer with a partner. They also watched three IMAX movies about space and were able to see a real space suit. Another activity they were involved in had to do with the moon's gravity. The students recorded the height of their vertical jumps for the Earth and then jumped again to measure their vertical for the moon and they were very excited about the outcome, “I jumped four feet on the moon!” a kindergartener exclaimed. The students had a great time and almost all of the kindergarteners said that their favorite part of the trip was trying astronaut ice cream.
