Pitt State had a 42-39 halftime advantage Saturday but could not hang onto its lead after halftime for a third consecutive road win in conference play. Central Missouri outscored Pitt State 41-31 in the second half and claimed its fourth consecutive win, 80-73.
The Gorillas were outrebounded 42-39 despite the solid efforts of both Rico Pierrevilus and Marky Nolen, who grabbed 10 and nine boards, respectively. The Mules attempted two more free throws, 31-29, and this is the second consecutive loss where an opponent outrebounded and attempted more free throws than Pitt State.
Pierrevilus finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards. Nolen had eight points, nine rebounds, two assists and one technical foul before fouling out late in the contest.
Kaleb Porter led Pitt State with 16 points and four assists, as well as two steals, helped out by four 3-point shots and 4-4 free throw shooting.
JaVon McGee added 12 points, three rebounds and three steals. Courtney Ingram gave Pitt State four scorers in double figures with 10 points. Terrell Eaddy made a start and finished with seven points.
Widgett Washington of Central Missouri led all scorers with 22 points and he added six rebounds and four rebounds to his stat line. Lance Beckwith added 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and five steals. Dominique Long had 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal. Reggie Stallings had nine points, nine rebounds, two blocked shots and one technical foul. Ryan Magdziarz provided a spark with three 3-point shots for all nine of his points.
In other MIAA games Saturday, Central Oklahoma defeated Lindenwood 78-75, Emporia State won its first MIAA game with a 65-60 win over Truman State, Missouri Western pulled away from Northwest Missouri 71-58, Missouri Southern neared triple-digits with a 99-80 win over Lincoln and Washburn defeated Nebraska-Kearney 72-56.
Central Missouri (10-3, 4-1 MIAA) entered a first-place tie with Northwest Missouri (11-3, 4-1).
Pitt State (11-3, 4-2) plays Missouri Southern (8-5, 3-2) in Joplin on Wednesday night before returning home next Saturday for a clash with Fort Hays State (9-4, 3-2).
