SPORTS ROUNDUP: Brownback appoints Gammon to KSHOF board

On Thursday, Gov. Sam Brownback appointed Pittsburg State great, former NFL player and current Chiefs Radio Network broadcaster and reporter Kendall Gammon to the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Board of Trustees, a board which selects Hall of Fame members.

High school wrestling
Eight Pittsburg High School wrestlers received All-Southeast Kansas League recognition — appreciation for a season where the Purple Dragons won a league title, regional title, two individual state titles and placed fourth in Class 4A, their highest team finish in school history.

Levi Kester (106 pounds), Parker Fields (120), Brett Cobb (126), state champion Aaron Seybold (145), Brent Koehn (182) and state champion Broc Bennett (285) earned first team and Jeremiah Jones (113) and Gershom Avalos (220) took honorable mention.

All-SEK selections: Pittsburg 8, Chanute 6, Fort Scott 6, Columbus 3, Coffeyville 1, Independence 1, Iola 1, Labette County 1, Parsons 1.

High school golf
St. Mary’s Colgan freshman Bailey Beykirch recorded an ace during practice Monday on Hole No. 5 of the Four Oaks Golf Course, using a 6-iron. Freddy Elmer and Jonah Dellasega witnessed this shot.
