There’s still time to secure tickets to be part of history on Jan. 5 when the Pittsburg State University men’s and women’s basketball teams host their first-ever nationally-televised doubleheader at John Lance Arena.
The Gorillas will entertain MIAA rival Northwest Missouri State University with the women’s action starting at 11:30 a.m. (CST) and the men’s game to follow at 1:30 p.m. The contests will be broadcast on CBS College Sports as the NCAA Division II national games of the week.
The first 2,000 fans to enter John Lance Arena will receive commemorative Gold Rush 2013 T-shirts to wear that day and support the Gorillas.
Additionally, PSU Athletics will host a free pancake feed from 10-11 a.m. in the dance studio in the Weede Building.
PSU Athletics also will recognize benefactors Alan & Roberta Whetzel with the Whetzel Floor Dedication during pre-game ceremonies at 10:30 a.m.

The women’s action starts at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 7:30 p.m. Game tickets for that MIAA doubleheader also are available for purchase.
The Pitt State men are 9-1 overall and 2-0 in MIAA play. The Gorillas, who are riding an MIAA-leading six-game winning streak, are off to their best start since the 2007-08 squad won its first nine games and opened that year 10-1 en route to an 18-10 overall record. Pitt State posted a pair of wins over the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (84-76) and Dixie State College (67-63) at the Las Vegas Challenge Dec. 18-19.
The Pitt State women are 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA. The Gorillas, who posted a school record 27 wins and advanced to the Elite Eight a year ago, posted an 81-58 victory over Dixie State in the Las Vegas Challenge in their last action Dec. 19.
