Pawprints on the Heartland’s Frank and Isabelle Rinehart low-cost spay/neuter van will operate July 19 and July 26 in Pittsburg.

Regular fee for the spay/neuter surgery for cats and small dogs is $35. Assistance is available for low-income, disabled and elderly pet owners.

All pets must be at least three months old to undergo the surgery, and must be brought in on a leash or in a carrier. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling toll free 1-877-887-7729 or 674-8133 for Craw-Kan customers.

To date, more than 65,000 pets have been spayed or neutered in the van, preventing the birth of millions of homeless pets this season.

Pawprints is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping control the overpopulation of animals. Each year thousands of pets in southeast Kansas are put to death because there are not enough homes for them. Motto of Pawprints is “Prevention, Not Destruction.”

Anyone wishing to sponsor a spay/neuter surgery for a disadvantaged animal may sent a $35 donation to Pawprints, P.O. Box 644, Pittsburg, Kan., 66762.
