Does your pet have what it takes to be featured on a calendar? Readers of the Morning Sun will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites during the month of July as the Morning Sun presents its 2013 Pet Calendar Contest.
The entry period remains open for the contest, which will determine the 12 pets who will be featured on the 2013 Pet Calendar. All proceeds from the contest will go to the Morning Sun Newspaper in Education program, which provides free copies of the newspaper to area schools.
Here’s how the contest works. Enter your pet either online or in person at the Morning Sun office, 701 N. Locust. Entry fee is $5. Beginning in July, the entries will be featured on a page in the newspaper daily through the voting period. The entry should include a good photo, a brief description and a few words why our readers should vote for your pet.
Votes cost 25 cents each, and there is no limit on how many times you can vote for your favorite pet. The 12 vote-getters will be featured on the calendar, which will be available in early December for $2 each.
“The contest is a lot of fun, and helps us continue to provide free papers to local schools,” said Steve Boggs, publisher of the Morning Sun. “It’s not limited to cats and dogs, either. We’ve seen horses, snakes … even a llama entered in similar pet calendar contests in the past. You never know who will win.”
The owner of the top vote-getter will get first choice of months his or her pet will be featured on the calendar. Each pet selected for the calendar will also be professionally photographed for the calendar, using a theme from the month in which they will be featured.
Each winner will also receive free copies of the calendar.
For help in getting your pet entered, contact Marenda Ortiz or Jeremy Parvin at the newspaper office, (620-231-2600.
The Morning Sun’s Newspaper in Education program provides copies of the newspaper to area schools at no cost to the student, teacher or school district. All proceeds from the contest are used to fund NIE.
