MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — Pittsburg Post 64 took the game by the horns in the bottom of the seventh with the go-ahead run, earning a split on Saturday with a thrilling 8-7 win over the Oklahoma City Bulls during the third day of the South Plains Classic.
Matt Standlee contributed three hits and three RBI — two of his three hits went for a double and a triple. Cody Grilz added two hits (including a double) and two RBI for Post 64.
Early in the season, Post 64 ran wild on the bases and the running game kicked into high gear against the Bulls on Saturday — eight stolen bases from six different players: Joe Wimmer and Grilz two apiece, then one each by Sam Gilbert, Brett Macary, Standlee and Blake Vail.
Christian Cedeno pitched six innings, finishing with a pitch count of 93. Cedeno threw 11 first-pitch strikes to 28 batters and threw 39 strikes overall with just one strikeout. Granted, neither team struck out very often Saturday. Macary earned the win.
Team Realtree 7, Pittsburg Post 64 3: Continuing its inconsistent play of recent games, Post 64 managed only two hits in the first game of the day on Saturday, neither hit going for extra bases.
Meanwhile, Team Realtree collected 10 hits and put together three-run stanzas in the fourth and sixth innings, enough run production for the win.
Post 64 finishes the day with a 15-7 overall record and 2-2 in the South Plains Classic.
