More than a thousand people gathered Saturday at Wellington Lake, Kan., to see their favorite rock stars shimmy, shake and sing.

The 12-hour Midwest Rockfest featured local group Sweet Pauli Pain, California-based Dirty Penny, as well as Keel, Slaughter, Kix and Great White.

Each group brought its own mix of sound and stage presence — with Kix front man Steve Whiteman jumping and dancing up and down the center stage, while recently injured Great White singer Jack White kept still but stayed vocally strong and engaging as he nursed a fractured pelvis and two vertebrae.

The evening ended after midnight with Dokken sending the crowd home in a metal rock frenzy. Quick guitar riffs meshed into a long solo performance from guitarist Jon Levin as he was joined with lead singer Don Dokken.
