TOPEKA - The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association plays its annual All-Star Game tonight in Lee Arena, home court of the Washburn Ichabods and Washburn Lady Blues. The girls contest tips at 6:05 p.m. with the boys game starting at approximately 8:10.

On the boys side, KBCA Blue features 6-foot-11, 240-pound post Jordan Kaufman (Andover Central) and 6-1 point guard Mason Wedel (De Soto). Kaufman and Wedel, representing both extremes of the height spectrum, both have inked with Division I basketball programs: Oral Roberts (Kaufman) and UMKC (Wedel). Oral Roberts and UMKC both play in the Summit League. Wedel's older brother, Ryan, played two years for Arkansas State and two years for Drake.

KBCA White guard Jalen Love (Wichita East) signed with the University of Denver. Love (6-2) averaged 18.7 points his senior year at Wichita East. The Pioneers finished their 2011-2012 season 22-9 overall and 11-5 in the Sun Belt Conference and plays next season in the Western Athletic Conference.

Emporia State will be heavily represented in the game: 6-1 guard Micah Swank (Pratt), 6-1 guard Terrence Moore (Wichita Heights) and 6-4 forward Collin Strobel (Topeka Hayden) on the Blue and 6-6 forward Ryan Murphy (Basehor-Linwood) on the White. Conner Crooker (Blue Valley North) and Grant Greenberg (Leavenworth) represent Northwest Missouri and 6-6 forward Zach Bush (Goddard Eisenhower) will possibly be playing many games and practice sessions in Lee Arena.

Six-three forward Cody Sluder (Central Heights) and 6-2 guard Marc Ellis (Doniphan West) play for KBCA White. Sluder inked with Colby Community College and Ellis with Highland.

The St. Mary’s Colgan defense (and foul trouble) stifled Sluder in the Class 3A state tournament and the football player Ellis caught the game-winning 40-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass in the Class 2-1A state playoffs.

On the girls side, 5-10 guard Kelly Thomson (Riley County) and 6-2 forward Hillary Chvatal (Rawlins County) headline the 24 players. Both Thomson and Chvatal signed with Division I programs.

Thomson scored over 1,200 points her prep career and established school career records in 3-point field goals (192) and free throw percentage (.800). She averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.7 steals her senior year. Thomson signed with Kansas State. The Wildcats finished their past season 20-14 overall and 9-9 in the Big 12 Conference.

Thomson plays for KBCA Blue.

Chvatal posted ridiculous numbers at Class 2A Rawlins County — including 25.1 points and 17.7 rebounds per game her junior year and 22.1-14.9 her senior year, giving her a double-double average over her entire high school career. Chvatal signed with Missouri State (Springfield), a school with a strong basketball heritage; the Bears finished 24-9 in 2011-2012.
