INDIANAPOLIS — Not long after it stopped raining back home in Kansas Saturday evening, Robbinsdale (Minnesota) poured down on Girard with 10 runs in the top of the fourth, turning a 4-1 game into a 14-1 run-rule victory in the final game of the first day of the Midwest Regional Tournament.
Robbinsdale hitter Joe Parenteau started the big inning with a walk, then advanced to second on a sacrifice by Dylan Hajnasiewicz. Parenteau would score on two wild pitches before Christian Dickson could reach second on a single and a Girard error. Dylan Hall singled in Dickson and Ben Ianazzo singled Hall over to third, setting up a major play in the game.
With two runners on and buried in a 1-2 hole, Christian Costello blasted a three-run home run and suddenly, after one swing of the bat, Robbinsdale led Girard 9-1.
Robbinsdale would tack on five more runs with two outs. Eric Schneider reached on a single, then moved forward on an error, and Martin Spies was hit by a pitch. Schneider and Spies scored on a Parenteau hit and Hajnasiewicz singled, again setting up a Robbinsdale hitter named Christian with a major run-scoring opportunity. Christian Dickson hit a two-run triple — scoring both Parenteau and Hajnasiewicz — and Robbinsdale led 13-1. Dickson would score the final run of the contest on a Hall single.
Ethan Jahay scored the only run of the game for Girard, after leading off the second with a double. Wade Boatman collected the only Girard RBI. Jahay and Ethan Goff had the only Girard hits against Robbinsdale pitchers Dickson, Ianazzo and Parenteau. Girard struck out seven times.
Girard (0-1) plays the early game today against Sioux City Westside.
