Rummage sale

Zion Lutheran Church will have a rummage sale from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church activity center.

This will be a “love sale” and items will not be priced. Shoppers will pay what they feel the item is worth or take it without charge. Proceeds will go to Wesley House.

There will also be a bake sale, and baked goods will be priced. Breakfast and lunch will be available. Proceeds from the bake sale and food sales will go for the weekly local broadcast of “The Lutheran Hour.”

Pittsburg Farmers Market

Pittsburg Farmers Market will open at 7:30 a.m. and run until noon or sold out.
A drawing will be held at 11 a.m. for the customer appreciation basket, filled with items donated by vendors. Shoppers may register for the drawing at the information booth, and the winner must be present.

Produce available will include watermelons, canary melons, cantaloupes, cucumbers, several varieties of okra, tomatoes, garlic, several kinds of fresh cut herbs, onions, green beans, peppers, squash, pecans (whole or in pieces), farm fresh eggs and raw honey.

Also available will be dip mixes, baked goods, handmade rugs and other woven items, jewelry, a wide variety of jams and jellies, wood bowls, lip balm, soap, picture frames, greeting cards, lotions and candles.

Shoppers may pay with credit, debit or Vision cards, and some produce vendors also accept Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers.

VFW Auxiliary

Albert M. Wheeler Veterans of Foreign Wars 1158 Auxiliary will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the post home. Effie Toney, president, will be in charge.

UMWA dinner

Local 14, District, 12, United Mine Workers of America, will meet for the annual supper at the Mulberry Senior Citizen Building.

Social hour will be held from 4 to 5 p.m,, with dinner served at 5 p.m. Steve Earle and Steve Jones, UMWA District 12 representative from Benton, Ill., will be present.

Those planning to attend should RSVP by contacting John Sarley at 231-2047, Robert Massa at 620-764-3429, Bill Zibert at 620-347-8372, or Calvin Beer at 232-1716.
