After blazing out to a 7-0 start this season, Pittsburg State dropped its fourth straight match, its third straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association match and its third straight home match Saturday afternoon to Fort Hays State in straight sets (24-26, 26-28, 18-25).
Leah Flynn and Paula Okrutna led Pitt State with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, as Pitt State hit .123 for the match — 45 kills and 26 errors in 154 total attacks. Crystal Whitten led the Gorillas with 13 digs and Brooke Fay added 11; making her Pitt State debut at libero in her fourth match played, junior college transfer Jordan Rehm made nine digs. Rebecca Pearson and Hayley Hansford had 28 and 14 assists, respectively. Fay led PSU with five blocks.
Fort Hays State lead attackers Kylee Hoagland and Jenna Ulrich matched the high-kill numbers of Flynn and Okrutna, Hoagland 11 and Ulrich 10 kills. Madison Schwartz added nine kills. Kayla Zoglman assisted on 36 points. Four Tigers finished with double-digit dig totals — Makenzie Weinman 22, Tara Hoekman 18, Zoglman 15 and Schwartz 12. Zoglman finished with a double-double. Hoagland led all players with six blocks.
Pitt State played from behind in the first and third sets, and gave up its lead in the second for the first time after 21-21 and the last time after 26-26.
