After working with the Citizens Bank Bowl committee, the National Junior College Athletic Association has officially sanctioned the inaugural bowl as a national championship game.
It essentially means that the winner between No. 1 Fort Scott Community College and No. 2 Blinn College will decide the championship, not via a final poll.
Mark Krug, director of sports information with the NJCAA said that there is not a specific criterea that has to be followed in order for a game to be sanctioned as a national championship game, but that there were points of discussion that the NJCAA wanted to have with the bowl committee before making a sanction.
“The by-laws just say that the process has to go through the Executive Director of the NJCAA and there some things that we want to see,” Krug said.
He said that one of those things was to have a 1-2 matchup in the game, which the Citizens Bank Bowl will have for the game, which will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 at Carnie Smith Stadium on the campus of Pittsburg State University.
