Frontenac, Colgan split junior high football

Frontenac and Colgan split a pair of junior high football games Tuesday — Frontenac won the eighth grade 40-6 and Colgan won the seventh 39-0.

Frontenac’s Cadin Bolinger scored on two runs and one punt return, Brandon Mlekus scored on an interception return, Ryan Long ran for one TD and passed for another, and Austin Gorham was on the receiving end of the Long TD. Luke Loy kicked two extra points.

Frontenac (5-0 eighth grade) travels to Columbus next Tuesday and the seventh grade plays tonight against Girard.

PCMS football
Pittsburg Community Middle School won both its games last Thursday against Iola — 24-8 seventh grade and 46-6 eighth grade.

The seventh grade had touchdown runs of 67 and 93 yards by fullback Crispin VonWinklepleck and a 10-yard touchdown run by Chase Johnson. Johnson made three sacks and Drew Roelfs intercepted two passes.

Big plays fueled the eighth grade victory — a 40-yard touchdown run by Dylan Prince, a 54-yard TD run by Elijah Harris, a 65-yard TD run by Keyshawn Jones, a 46-yard TD pass from Noah Vaughn to Nathan Woods, a 20-yard TD pass from Jake Webb to Isaiah Harris and a 85-yard TD run by Isaac Tyler. Tanner Hitchcock saved an Iola touchdown with a diving interception.

Both PCMS teams improve to 4-0.
