Candidates file campaign finance reports

On Monday, candidates for statewide offices were deadlined to file campaign finance reports.

In the GOP gubernatorial race, Sen. Sam Brownback has raised more than $1.1 million for his campaign. His primary opponent, Derby resident Joan Heffington, reported raising less than $2,600.

Brownback reported having $1.18 million in cash on hand. From Jan. 1, 2010 to July 22, 2010, Brownback reported raising $519,000.

The only Democrat running for governor, State Sen. Tom Holland, of Baldwin City, reported raising $283,000 since February. His report stated that he ended the reporting period with $103,000 in cash on hand.

Kansas Attorney General Steve Six, the Democratic incumbent who is unopposed in the Aug. 3 primary, reported that his campaign raised $235,000 from the first of the year through July 22. His total fundraising was reported at $819,000.

On the GOP side of the race, Kansas Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt outraised his opponent, Junction City prosecutor Ralph DeZago. Schmidt’s campaign reported raising just over $85,000, bringing his total to $223,000 while DeZago raised about $1,500 this year, making his campaign total at about $7,700. Of his total figure, DeZago reported contributing about $4,100 of his own money to his campaign.
