The Southwest Power Pool filed approved tariff language with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), taking a step to bring new transmission to Kansas.
Kansas Lt. Governor Troy Findley, chairman of the Governor’s subcabinet on energy policy, said that he was pleased with the actions of the SPP board.
“In a renewable energy economy, Kansas stands to gain thousands of new jobs; but to make this a reality, we need new transmission lines to take Kansas power to customers in other states,” Findley said. “The Southwest Power Pool Board’s decision to approve the tariff language brings Kansas one step closer to making the V-Plan a reality.
The new “Highway/Byway” method of sharing costs for electric transmission is a group of high- and low-voltage transmission projects above 300 kV. Costs of the projects, under the new language, will be assigned to electric utilities across the entire SPP footprint.
