St. Paul schools have introduced a preschool consisting of twelve students. The class has ten girls and two boys. The teacher is Ms. Kacie Trotter and her assistant is Mrs. Jan Hutcherson.
St. Paul principal Mr. Warren McGown said he and the superintendent, Mrs. Susan Beeson, decided to open the preschool to better prepare the students for kindergarten and to help them work on routines and being on schedule.
The process of getting the preschool here had to be approved by the school board and the Regional Service Center out of Greenbush, this decision took just a matter of months to decide, but has been spoken about for a while. Mr. McGown said that there was not a certain amount of students that could be in the class but they have to be four before August 31st.
Ms.Trotter lived in St.Paul as she was growing up, so she was happy to come back and teach at the school. The curriculum she uses is a program called Creative Learning. The idea of this program is to teach the children without them realizing they are learning; so she thinks of creative fun games or activities for the kids to participate in.
Pre-school runs from eight in the morning until eleven. The school board, superintendent and Mr. McGown decided to have a half day because it would be too hard to look after and keep kids entertained for the whole day. One of the things that would have to be added to the day is nap time and Ms.Trotter said, “Having a nap time would just be too hard, trying to get 12 four year olds to sleep is a very difficult task.”
Ms. Trotter stated, “I am very happy with the way things are going with the preschool and I’m happy to be teaching such a great group of kids.” Overall, there has been quite a bit of positive feedback from parents about the pre-school and the principal, superintendent and school board are very happy with the decision.
