Labette County 23-0. Wamego 23-0. Pratt 23-0. Paola 22-1. Andale/Garden Plain 22-1. De Soto 21-2. Basehor-Linwood 21-2. Mulvane 18-5.

Those are the eight softball teams in the Class 4A state tournament and their overall records this season. Seven teams with fewer than five losses, fewer than four losses and fewer than three losses. Two teams with two losses and two teams with one loss apiece. Three undefeated teams. Eight teams which combine to average over 21 wins.

Labette County, top seed and Southeast Kansas League champions, will have their work cut out for them in the traditionally difficult Class 4A softball bracket. However, the Grizzlies feature seniors Kelsie Goins, Shelbie Foister, Kaysha Julich, Tiara Ford, Katie Rash and Allie Reynolds.

Just one look at the numbers compiled by Reynolds 23 games into her senior year could make a head spin.

She owns a 23-0 record with a 0.30 ERA, allowing six earned runs in 138 innings. She’s pitched all 138 innings for Labette this year and surrendered only 34 hits, 15 extra-base hits and no home runs. She’s tossed 10 shutouts in her 23 complete games. She’s made 254 batters take a seat with 16 games above 10 strikeouts and several doubleheaders above 20, including 35 (17 in the first game, 18 in the second) in a SEK League twinbill with rival Parsons, a team which eliminated Labette County from the playoffs in 2011. Opponents are hitting .078 against Reynolds.

Over the last three seasons, Reynolds has 62 wins and 655 strikeouts, averaging over 20 wins and 218 strikeouts.

Reynolds supports herself at the plate this season with a .506 batting average (39-77), one home run, seven doubles, two triples and 30 RBI, as well as 32 runs scored.

The Grizzlies hit .390 as a team and Foister, Julich and Reynolds each hit over .500. Foister leads the way, hitting .529 with 14 of her team-high 45 hits going for extra bases; 10 doubles, one triple and three homers (team high) for 29 RBI. Julich hits .512 and leads with 15 doubles. Goins, batting .447 on the year, leads the Grizzlies with 40 RBI, averaging 1.74 RBI per game.

Andale/Garden Plain won the 4A title in 2008 and 2011. Basehor-Linwood won in 2010. Labette County has not won a state title in softball.

Labette County plays Mulvane next Friday at the Bill Burke Complex.
