Summer camps
• Pittsburg State hosts the 2012 Tim Beck Option/Passing Camp on June 14-15 for grades 7-12.
This camp emphasizes proper techniques and footwork in the option and drop back techniques and pass routes in the passing and receiving game. Quarterbacks, running backs and receivers will be grouped together by their high school affiliation. An athletic trainer will be available.
Fees are $85 for pre-registration and $100 for registration after June 1. Both fees cover a camp T-shirt and camp insurance.

Running back emphasis: stance, alignment, footwork, dive paths, taking handoff, faking handoffs, pitch paths, catching pitches, run and pass blocking and pass receiving and routes.
Wide receiver emphasis: two-point stance, releases, route mechanics, recognizing coverages, blocking techniques for the perimeter option game and catching passes.
Tight ends: stance and alignment, footwork out of the stance, veer release and support blocking, running routes inc. option routes and catching passes.

This half-pad (helmets and shoulder pads) camp teaches technique and fundamentals in line play, run and pass blocking, recognition and pass rush through practice sessions, one-on-one drills, unit competition and film instruction. Campers need a helmet, shoulder pads, mouthpiece, shorts and cleated shoes, as well as sack lunch or money for a fast food restaurant.

Defensive line drills: stance, hands and footwork, rushing the proper path, working half the man and bull rush, emphasizing stance, ball get off, hand placement, blocking recognition and how to get off blocks.
The camp will have two sessions — 9 a.m.-12 Noon and 1-4 p.m.

• Pitt State men’s basketball will hold its Gorilla Team Shootout (varsity, JV and freshman divisions) on Friday-Saturday.
Fees are $250 per team for four games on Friday, $250 for four games and 2 min. tournament on Saturday and $400 for eight games and 2 min. tournament. Additional teams from the same school receive a discount.
Games will be two halves in running clock mode. Coaches get three timeouts and the clock stops in the last 2 minutes of the game. Coaches received a game schedule one week before the start of the camp.
The single-elimination 2-minute tournament helps coaches emphasize late game and high-pressure situations.

• Pitt State head women’s basketball coach Lane Lord will hold the Team Camp on June 13-15 and the Grade School Camp on June 21-23.
Team camp registration fees are $55 per player with no meals and no dorm, $100 with dorm and no meals and $145 with meals and dorm.
Middle school, JV and varsity teams are target audiences for the team camp — which features a 12-game guarantee, a 2-minute tournament, a coaches social each night, high school officials, banners for each divisional and 2-minute tournament champion and a camp T-shirt for each player , as well as transportation to and from dorms for games.
The grade school camp (grades 3-9) features two registration fee options: $165 for a resident camper with five meals and $135 for a non-resident with three meals.
The camp will have instruction geared toward basic skill development and team concepts for the older players (grades 6-9) and younger players (grades 3-5). Morning sessions: fundamentals. Afternoon sessions: skill contests and competitions. Evening sessions: team games.
• Pitt State head softball coach Elizabeth Economon will host an All-Skills Camp June 11-12 and High School Camp June 11-13.
The former camp will be open to players entering grades 3-8 and the latter for players entering grades 9-12.
Campers will have position-specific drills and numerous offensive drills in the all-skills camp (8:30 a.m.-12 Noon both days) and the high school camp (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) will feature offensive and defensive skill work in the morning and then campers will scrimmage after lunch in the afternoon session. Each team will be coached by a collegiate level student-athlete for the entire week. Current Pitt State coaches and student-athletes make up the camp staff.
In addition, Economon and assistant coach Catye Billman will handle pitching and hitting clinics, broken into four-week one-hour instruction sessions. Players have a choice between May 23-June 21 or June 27-July 26, sessions on Wednesday or Thursday night and times at either 5-6, 6-7 or 7-8 p.m. Economon directs hitting and Billman pitching.

• Frontenac High School head coach Doug Barto will hold the 2012 Raider FUN-damental Youth Basketball Camp for boys and girls grades K-6 on June 4-7 (12-2:30 p.m.) at the FHS gym. Registration fee will be $35 after May 17. This registration fee covers a T-shirt. The camp will emphasize individual fundamentals and feature contests, games and competitions. • Pittsburg High School tennis coach John Seal will be instructing youth tennis lessons divided into two sessions: June 4-13 and June 18-27. Beginners will be held from 7:45-8:45 a.m., intermediate 9-10:15 a.m. and advanced 10:30-11:45 a.m. Fees are $15 per session.
The Southeast Kansas Tennis Academy has been scheduled for June 18-22 on the tennis courts of Pittsburg State University. Fees for the academy are as follows: $395 for overnight campers (all day/night, ages 12-18), $250 for full-day campers (8:45 a.m.-4 p.m., 12-18) and $150 for half-day campers (8:45-11:30 a.m., 10-18). Overnight campers will stay in dorms at Pitt State and eat at the university cafeteria.
Instructors will be Seal, Kansas Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame member Bob Warkentine, Jack Johnson, Dave Hawley and Richard Strange.
General campers should bring 4-5 sets of tennis attire, a water jug with the camper’s name printed on it, two pairs of tennis court shoes and a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, swim suit and towel. Overnight campers should bring top and bottom sheets, blanket, pillow and case, bath towels and toiletries.

Seal will also instruct two camps this summer: a high school camp July 9-12 and a youth camp in two sessions — July 23-26 and July 30-August 2. Times for the high school camp: girls at 6:30-7:45 p.m. and boys at 7:45-9 p.m. Times for the youth camp: beginners at 6:30-7:30 p.m. and intermediate at 7:30-8:30 p.m.
• Pittsburg Community Middle School coaches Bill Hanson and Caleb Boulware, as well as Pittsburg High School coaches and invited guest speakers and coaches, will instruct a basketball camp for sixth through eight grade boys June 18-21 at the PHS main gymnasium and the Megan Mallatt Activity Center.
The camp will focus on the fundamentals of the game, shooting, passing, dribbling, defense and overall team concepts. Sessions will be from 11 a.m-1 p.m. An enrollment fee will be $25 or $20 per student for families with more than one camper. Each camper receives a T-shirt.
