One could easily fill a top 10 list just with the major moments from the 2012 presidential campaign.
In the end, President Barack Obama won re-election in November.

On a local scale, however, Crawford County went the other way, supporting GOP nominee Gov. Mitt Romney. That was just the second time since 1964 (and the first time since 1988) that the county did not vote for the eventual winner of the presidential election.

There were a lot of old faces elected to new positions in 2012.

State Senator Bob Marshall and challenger Jake LaTurner met for the second time in the GOP primaries, except this time LaTurner came out victorious, later beating Democrat Gene Garman for the District 13 seat.

In the state House, Julie Menghini returned to her former district 3 seat with a victory over Republican candidate Michelle Hucke. The campaign was to replace the outgoing Rep. Terry Calloway, who had beaten Menghini two years earlier but decided not to run for re-election.

Democratic Rep. Doug Gatewood in Cherokee County also did not run for re-election, leaving his district 1 seat up for grabs. It was claimed by Republican Michael Houser.

Democratic Rep. Jerry Williams decided to retire, and his eighth district was absorbed in redistricting (see attached).

Perhaps the only seat without much change was in district 2, where Democrat Rep. Bob Grant continued serving as he has since 1991 after beating Jeff Locke in the general election.
