A Pittsburg convenience store was robbed over the holidays. It is the third armed robbery during the month of December.

According to a report from the Pittsburg Police Department, officers responded to the Short Stop convenience store at 1711 N. Broadway at 11:18 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28 for a report of an armed robbery. The clerk told the officers that three males, two of which were brandishing handguns, had entered the store and demanded money. The suspects were described as wearing dark clothing and black ski masks.

After obtaining an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, the suspects ran from the area on foot. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate any of the suspects. The clerk was not injured during the robbery.

Two other Pittsburg businesses were robbed in December. Convenient Laundrymat at 904 S. Joplin was knocked over by two suspects, both believed to be Hispanic males and one of whom had a gun, on the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 12. On Sunday, Dec. 23., two males, also believed to be Hispanic and one of whom was brandishing a double-barrel shotgun, robbed Pitt Stop convenience store at 902 S. Broadway.

Officers later arrested one of the suspects, 18-year-old Juan Medina, of Pittsburg. Neither of the clerks were injured in those robberies.

There was no indication of whether the robberies were committed by the same suspects.
“We do not know at this time,” Maj. Brent Narges said via e-mail. “We are investigating all angles in case they are connected or solo events.”

The investigation is ongoing by the Pittsburg Police Department. Anyone with information relating to the robbery or any suspicious activity may report it to the Pittsburg Police Department at (620)231-1700. Callers reporting criminal or suspicious activity to the Police Department may remain anonymous. Information relating to the or other crimes may also be reported to Heartland Crime Stoppers at (417)782-TIPZ or HeartlandTipz.com.
