PITTSBURG —
A high-speed chase involving Crawford and Cherokee County law enforcement officers occurred over the weekend.
According to a report from the Pittsburg Police Department, officers responded at 1:58 p.m. Friday to the area of the railroad crossing in the 100 block of E. Quincy for numerous reports of a male driving erratically in the area and attempting to stop a northbound train. It was reported the suspect was driving a white van and wearing a bandana covering the lower half of his face.
The train continued northbound through the crossing and moments later the suspect stopped his van across the tracks at the Jefferson street crossing, causing the train to stop. Witnesses reported the subject pointed some type of weapon at the train and was attempting to start an altercation with train personnel.
A Pittsburg officer located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The suspect then led officers on a vehicle pursuit into rural Crawford County and then into rural Cherokee County, where the pursuit was taken over by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department. The vehicle eventually stopped in rural Cherokee County after officers deployed a tire deflating device. The driver attempted to flee on foot, but was taken into custody. The suspect will be charged with felony fleeing and eluding, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass in addition to charges in Cherokee County. The suspect, 27-year-old Coty Ray Noe, of Girard, was booked into the Cherokee County Jail.
