Jake LaTurner, a Republican from Pittsburg, filed Friday for the Kansas State Senate in the 13th District.  LaTurner, a sixth generation Kansan, has family ties to Southeast Kansas dating to 1870. Coming from a family of farmers, miners, and teachers, Jake understands how to help Southeast Kansas prosper. His great grandparents were committed to building a better future for their children, and Jake is no different.  As a father of two, LaTurner is committed to growing that same spirit of leadership in the Senate.

LaTurner is a graduate of Galena High School and Pittsburg State University, where he earned a degree in Political Science.  Jake and his wife, Suzanne, live in Pittsburg with their two children, Ava and Joe.  He was elected as the youngest-ever Chairman of the Cherokee County Republican Party, and served the past four years in the office of Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins.  In this capacity, LaTurner worked with constituents to battle government bureaucracy and red tape by securing veterans’ rightful benefits and helping communities and businesses grow . As a Senator, Jake will continue to fight for the interests of every citizen of Southeast Kansas.

LaTurner stated, “Southeast Kansas deserves leadership that will vote for the interests of our district.  We need leaders willing to fight for jobs, education, highways, and a better economy.   I will work tirelessly for the people of the 13th district.  Topeka will know I am there to stand up for Southeast Kansas. We should no longer allow our district to be overlooked.”  The 13th Senate District encompasses all of Crawford and Cherokee Counties, Southeast Labette County, and southern Bourbon County.
