The All-Star game for 12-year-olds was not a one-sided affair.

In fact, the two sides battled back and forth and the game wasn’t decided until the bottom of the final inning.

National League’s Jake Webb started and finished the game en route to being named MVP. Webb pitched the first inning for the NL and was also part of the winning combination. The two teams entered the sixth and final inning with the NL leading 14-10. The American League rallied to score four runs and tie up the game.

However, NL manager Troy Graham said he was not worried at that point.

“I was happy going into the last inning, because we had the top of our batting order coming up,” Graham said. “We had three batters  come up in the sixth inning and we scored on the third batter.

Joey Biggs reached base and Jake Webb ended the game with a base hit that brought Biggs to home plate.

The National League consisted of 12-year-olds from the Via Christi Braves, the Knights of Columbus Cubs, and the Watco Nationals. The American League consisted of the Comeau Jewelry Rockies, the Rotary Orioles and the Jock’s Nitch A’s.

The American League had actually led most of the first half of the game. The team was up 6-3 before the NL bats woke up in the third and fourth innings. And no one was a bigger part of that than Jake Dellasega, who hit a bases-clearing triple that was effectively a grand slam when the throw to third was wide, allowing Dellasega to advance. The NL would also score six runs in the fourth inning.

Jeremiah Buche led the AL with three hits and three runs in three at-bats. Buche ended up only a home run shy of the cycle.
Webb, Biggs, Dellasega (2) and James Richey each had extra-base hits for the NL. Buche (2) and Alex Kafka had the extra-base hits for the AL.
