YEARS IN BUSINESS Started the business in Cherokee about 15 or 16 months ago, then shut it down and moved it to Pittsburg on Dec. 14.

HOMETOWN Sarcoxie, MO

HOBBIES Fishing, shooting guns

In a few sentences, can you tell us how you got into your line of work?

I just always loved to cook for family and get-togethers and friends. I’ve always liked BBQ. So here I am. (The Cherokee location) was a huge learning experience. I got my schooling for a restaurant business in Cherokee.”

What do you like most about your work, and what do you like least?

I enjoy the people. I like trying to serve a good, homemade product. (I least like) lots and lots of hours. It’s lots and lots of hours. I use family recipes and nobody knows my business except for me.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to open a business?

You have got to be disciplined. I like to think I’m a perfectionist, so I put a lot of hours into my business to make it the best that I can. You’ve got to be dedicated to your business.
