AZZ Atkinson Industries is building more structure so it can build its own infrastructure.
Thursday, the company broke ground on an office expansion for roughly 10,000 square feet worth more than $1 million.
“We’ve run out of office space,” said Gary Mattson, AZZ Atkinson human resources manager. “We’ve been holding up on filling a couple of positions because we don’t have room to grow our support staff. Adding infrastructure will allow us to grow our engineering team, our accounting team and our sales team.”
AZZ Atkinson has been in operation in Pittsburg since 1919, and the company makes factory fabricated enclosures, including for the industrial, power generation, transmission and distribution sectors. The company is also a leading provider of hot dip galvanizing services to the North American Steel Fabrication Market.
“They’ve been one of our leading employers in Pittsburg for decades,” said Blake Benson, Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce president. “Really, there were a lot of people involved in today’s announcement. No one more than Frank Robison and the employees. The dependability and productivity made the Pittsburg plant an option for expansion.”
The company (NYSE: AZZ) is in the midst of a rapid growth, as they have already added 40 jobs at the Pittsburg location just in the last year. The company said that it is coming off a record-setting fiscal year 2013 and is forecasting another record-setting year.
This expansion has been in the works for at least two years.
“This will allow us the infrastructure to continue our growth. A lot on the front end drives growth. Our sales team give quotes and our engineer team designs. When they get a project, and the sales team gets requirements, we can come back with a design. I see that growing,” Mattson said. “First, we fit our designs to order specifications. Second, engineering is really lacking in other companies. We’re playing a role in solving problems.”
