Each year Saint Paul Schools holds the annual spelling bee for students in grades four through eight. Two weeks prior to the actual competition, each student in the classes had to take the same spelling test with twenty questions, plus three bonus questions. The two students with the highest scores in each class advanced to the spelling bee.

This year the students who did well in the written test and advanced to the spelling bee were, from the fourth grade: Rebecca Daughtery, Annabella Beachner, fifth grade:  Gib Carter and Emily Hutcherson, sixth grade:  Lexi Thomas and Emma Smith, from the seventh grade:  Colton Warstler and Anthony Schettler, and from the eight grade:  Chloe Casey and Kyesha Hughes.

In the two weeks before the spelling bee, most students practiced at home with a list of words. January 30th, the much anticipated spelling bee was held. It took about one hour to complete the competition. The winner was fourth grader Annabella Beachner and the runner up was sixth grader Lexi Thomas. Miss Beachner will now move on to the Labette County Spelling Bee, where she will represent St. Paul Schools.

Congratulations to all contestants and good luck at the Labette County Spelling Bee, Annabella, we will be rooting for you!
