The No. 1 high school baseball team in Class 3A rolled to 15-0 and 15-1 wins Monday night over the Erie Red Devils.
Frontenac (12-1) received five RBI from Matt Standlee and two apiece from Brett Macary and Ross Edge — the Raiders scored three in the first, four in the second, four in the third and four in the fourth against Erie first game pitchers Eric Vogt and Brent Lehenbauer.
In the second game, Bryce Burdette drove in four, Bryan Wade three, Matt Standlee two and Ross Edge, Blake Barto, Nick Zafuta and Gus Brunetti one apiece during a game in which Erie pitcher Brett Thompson allowed 15 runs over all five innings.
Winning pitcher Burdette and Jake Teats combined for a four-inning shutout in Game 1 and Nick Zafuta earned the win in Game 2.
In softball, undefeated Frontenac (13-0) defeated Erie 12-1 and 14-4 in games both lasting seven innings.
In the first game, Nayna Fields went 3-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI, Libby Warrick 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, Danielle McBride 3-4 with two RBI, Samantha Bonner 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI and Lindsey Gorham pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk, striking out seven.
In the second game, Warrick hit 2-3 with two runs scored, two walks, one stolen base and one RBI, Bonner 3-5 with two runs scored, one triple and one stolen base and Jennifer Long knocked a home run, drove in two runs, scored three runs, walked twice and stole two bases during her 1-3 second game. Gorham earned her second win of the night with seven innings pitched, eight hits allowed, two walks allowed and seven strikeouts.
Both Frontenac teams play Northeast in Arma on Thursday.
High school tennis
Pittsburg dominated Nevada (Mo.) in a dual Monday night in Pittsburg.
“Any time you allow only four games won in a dual by your opponent the word dominant is very appropriate,” Pittsburg head coach John Seal said. “Our kids played with great intensity and purpose.”
Pittsburg won every match against Nevada — Sean Perkins and Jake Cloninger defeated Anthony Do and Colton Short 8-0, Hank Cloninger and Brandon Smith defeated Chris Sandoval and Luat Vu 8-1, and Micah Hashman and Jake Creech defeated Skylar Laning and Skyler Crews 8-1 in doubles.
In singles, Perkins defeated Short 8-0, Hank Cloninger defeated Sandoval 8-0, Smith defeated Do 8-0, Jake Cloninger defeated Vu 8-0, Creech defeated Crews 8-1, Brad Gaddy defeated Laning 8-1 and Joey Ehrheart defeated Sergio Rodriguez 8-0.
