“Life Industries,” an exhibit of printmaking and sculpture by Andrew Au, Middletown, Iowa, will be on exhibit Monday through March 7 in the Harry Krug Gallery, Porter Hall, Pittsburg  State University.

The artist will present a free public lecture from 4 to 5 p.m. March 7 in room 103, Porter Hall, followed by a reception from 5 to 8 p.m.

Andrew Au is an art professor at Miami University Middletown. His work includes works on paper, printmaking and sculpture.

“Life  Industries” explores product design and manufactured objects seen as living organisms by replicating images through methods of biological illustration and modeling to create prints and sculpture. Included are gouache paintings  and silkscreen print methods similar to midcentury advertisements, as well as sculptural reproductions to create the feeling of a natural history display.

Au’s work has been exhibited nationally at Loyola University in Chicago, San Diego Art Institute, New Orleans Triennial, College of Notre Dame of Maryland, Turchin Center for Art, Bowling Green State University of Ohio and at the University of Minnesota.

He has also shown internationally at the 14th Tallinn Print Triennial in Estonia, the seventh Lessedra Print Exhibition in Bulgaria and at exhibitions in Canada, Turkey, Iceland and Denmark. Au has had solo exhibitions at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans as part of the New Orleans Biennial, at the Project Room of Tinlark Gallery in Los Angeles and the Alice F. and Harris K. Weston Art Gallery in Cincinnati.

The exhibit will be open free to the public from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday. Anyone needing additional information may contact S. Portico Bowman at 620-235-4305 or sbowman@pittstate.edu.
