Morning Jolt: Blackhawks tie Stanley Cup finals at 2 apiece

The Chicago Blackhawks won Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals 6-5 in overtime, tying the series with the Boston Bruins 2-2. Six different players scored for Chicago, and Brent Seabrook scored the game-winner.

43 give at Girard community blood drive

The American Red Cross conducted a community blood drive June 11 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Girard. A total of 43 donors registered to give blood.

Mary V. Shead, Ralph Shead, Matthew Shead and newly arrived Miles Paul Shead got together at McCune Brooks Hospital in Carthage, Mo., where Matthew Shead’s wife, Ashley Shead, delivered the baby. He gets his middle name from his great-grandfather, the late Paul Shead, who ran a service station in Arcadia for 39 years.

Fair brings job seekers, companies together

 

Area businesses saw a steady stream of prospective employees at the job fair hosted Tuesday by the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce. About 150 individuals came between the time the fair opened at 10 a.m. and the lunch hour, according to Devin Gorman, vice president of the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce.

County considers mined land access options

In 2010, Noretta Caldwell donated 21 acres of land to the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. There’s just one problem with that land — there’s no way to reach it.

Two Pittsburg budget sessions still scheduled

City staff and city commissioners were in attendance at Lincoln Center Tuesday night for a scheduled session to inform the public of the city's budget situation. However, with no members of the public in attendance, the session was dismissed.

Fireworks fund at $15,000

 

The Big Bang Rockfest in April rocked Pittsburg’s annual fireworks budget to the tune of $10,600, more than doubling the total raised by the event the year before. However, other donations have been slower to arrive, and with the fireworks order deadline quickly approaching this year’s show is looking smaller than usual.
