Thomas W. Slack, 86, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away at 7:05 a.m., Thursday, July 5, 2012.

He was born August 23, 1925, at Pittsburg, KS, the son of Thomas and Edith Slack.

Mr. Slack served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Joan Kuplen at Pittsburg.  She survives of the home.

Mr. Slack was a long time fireman for the Pittsburg Fire Department.  He started on January 1, 1958 and retired as a Captain on June 30, 1984.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two grandchildren, Missy Doll of Wichita, KS, and Michael Slack of Lawrence, KS, and two great-grandchildren, Colton Doll and Brooklyn Doll.

Mr. Slack is preceded in death by a son, Mike Slack, his parents and one sister.

A service for Mr. Slack is set for 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Brenner Mortuary, with Reverend Kevin Arensman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery, where the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64 of Pittsburg will provide the flag folding ceremony.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Brenner Mortuary.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 12:00 p.m., Sunday, to sign the register book.  The family suggests memorials to the Hospice Care of Kansas. These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS, 66762.  Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
