Cecil William Stolte, 81, of Prairie Village, Kansas, passed away November 4, 2009.
He was born February 15, 1928 in rural Brazilton, Kansas, a son of John Henry and Anna Mathilde (Meyer) Stolte. Cecil attended schools in the area and was a farmer until 1950. He enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1950 and was a sergeant at the time of his honorable discharge in 1956.
On August 13, 1950, he married Dolores Ann Reith of Girard, Kansas, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Brazilton. His loving wife of 59 years survives at the home.
He is also survived by his daughter Dr. Cynda Ann Johnson and her husband Dr. Bruce Johnson of Roanoke, VA; two delightful grandsons, Kevin Johnson of Astoria, NY, and Andrew Johnson with his wife Sarah Olia of Boston, MA; a sister, Julia Kunshek of Girard, KS; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Edward Stolte and Floyd Stolte and one sister, Shirley Ann Meister, preceded him in death.
Cecil was a licensed residential real estate appraiser in the greater Kansas City area from 1965 until he retired in 2005. Prior to 1965 Cecil was in the mortgage banking business for several years. He was a graduate of the Kansas City Business College and the School of Mortgage Banking at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. He received his professional residential appraiser designation from the Appraisal Institute in 1980 and was a member of the Kansas City Chapter for many years.
Cecil was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Prairie Village. He was a member of the former Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie Village for over 50 years and was president of the congregation in 1982.
Cecil and Dolores enjoyed traveling and spending time at their vacation home in Bella Vista, AR. He enjoyed yard work, playing cards, following sports, and especially spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Girard on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Hepler, Kansas with military honors conducted by the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion of Girard. Friends may call after 1:00 P.M., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.
A memorial service will be held at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Prairie Village, KS on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 12:30 PM.
