JoAnn “Mega” Jones, age 73, born on Bennett Hill, January 27, 1936, to Grace and Joe Bennett in Weir, Ks., and died at Mt. Carmel Hospital with complications due to pancreatic cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Leon Jones whom she married in 1957 and her baby daughter, April Marie Jones. She was always known as Mega, Grandma or GG to everyone. Mega made the best chicken noodles and cinnamon rolls in town. Always full of energy and life and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. She never met a stranger, her only vice was coffee, she liked it hot and black and she’s the jitterbug queen. The family called her the “matriarch”. She is and will always be greatly missed and will always be remembered. Survivors include four children, Tammie Kay Taylor, Teddy Wayne Jones, David Lee Jones, all of Weir, KS, and Alfred Ray Jones, of Pittsburg, KS; five siblings, William Robert Bennett, James Russell Bennett, Mary Janet Morris, Joseph Bennett and Arthur Bennett; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
