Beverly Charolene Preston, 61, of Columbus, passed from this life Monday, July 6, 2009, at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock.

Beverly was born December 9, 1947, in Baxter Springs, Kan., to the union of Jesse and Freda (Morgan) Durbin. She was united in marriage July 30, 1976, in Columbus, Kan., to Darrell Preston. She worked many years as a dispatcher for the Cherokee County Sheriffs Department. Later pursuing a degree from Labette Community College as an LPN, where she worked for 10 years at Freeman Hospital. She then spent all of her time loving and caring for her family and friends as a homemaker.

Beverly is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Darrell Preston of the home; two sons, Tony Coble of Baxter Springs, Kan., and James Coble of Baxter Springs, Kan.; one daughter, Kimberly Wammack of McCune, Kan.; three brothers, Jerry Goins of Jacksonville, Ill., Kenny Durbin of Baxter Springs, Kan., and Ron Durbin of Lowell, Kan.; two sisters, Lawanna Durbin of Prescott, Ariz., and Janis Jackson of Baxter Springs, Kan.; along with three grandchildren, William, Dakota and Jerason.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Kan. Pastor Ed McAfee will officiate the services. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltsbaxterchapel.com.
