Wanda J. Martin died July 18, 2009.
She attended Lincoln Grade School in Pittsburg, Kansas and Roosevelt Junior High; graduating in 1948 from Pittsburg High School where she served on the debate team in and was a member of the National Forensic League. She shared Concert Mistress duties with best friend Donna Ross in the high school orchestra. Wanda married Robert Martin in 1955.
Their children are: David Keith, Donald Duane, Deborah Sue, Douglas Wayne, and Diana Kay.
She attended Kansas University, Pittsburg State University and Wichita State University. During her professional years, Wanda was a licensed insurance, property & casualty agent. After retirement she served as a volunteer at Wesley Medical Center for 8 years and was chosen vice-president of Hospital Volunteers by her peers. She also spent 2 years as State Recording Secretary of Kansas Hospital Volunteers. While at Wesley she worked Surgical Recovery Room, was a Ronald McDonald House volunteer and served on the Children Are Special Committee where she was the “Humor Cart” person, providing ill children with much need laughter during their stay in the hospital. Word rapidly spread of Wanda’s magic humor eventually getting noticed by Larry Hatteberg and became one of Hatteberg’s People. Above all, Wanda loved children as evidenced by her volunteer work and was deeply involved in the lives of her own children.
Viewing and visitation will occur Wednesday, July 22 from 4 – 8 with family present 6-8 at Old Mission Mortuary.
A Funeral Service will take place 9 a.m. Friday, July 24 at Old Mission Mortuary.
Burial to follow in Park Cemetery, Columbus, Kansas, 3 p.m.
