Maxine Schultze, 86, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away at 3:55 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Pittsburg. She had been a life-long resident of Pittsburg, KS.

Mrs. Schultze was born March 18, 1924 to Robert and Alma (Paul) Daugherty.  She graduated from Cherokee High School in 1942 and attended Pittsburg Business College before employment at the Atkinson Armature Works from 1945 to 1948.  She married Arnold Schultze January 11, 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Schultze worked hard her whole life helping her husband with the farm and the livestock. She loved gardening and crocheted countless Afghans for friends and family. Every year hummingbirds flocked to her back porch where she always kept her feeders full for them. When her granddaughters were very young, she took care of them for years while their mother worked. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Martha Circle, and had taught Sunday school for years there. She was also a member of the Eastern Star for 50 years.

Mrs. Schultze was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Sam, Harold, and Glenn, and one sister, Reba Faye.  

She is survived by her husband, Arnold, of the home; son, Robert, of Pittsburg, daughter-in-law, Lyn,  daughter, Connie Largess, and son-in-law,  Paul Largess of Tulsa, Oklahoma, granddaughters, Jessena  and Sylvia,  and  a sister, Ruby Hinkle of Kansas City, Kansas.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tom Wehrman officiating. Burial will be in the Crocker Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Brenner Mortuary. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday to sign the register book. The family suggests memorials be given to the St. John’s Lutheran Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.  Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
