With his loving wife and family by his side, Daniel LeRoy Karnes, 68, answered the call to come home to Heaven above on the evening of March 18, 2013. He fought a valiant battle against the cancer he was diagnosed with last May. The wonderful memories we have of him will outweigh the many tears we shed.
Dan was born October 22, 1944 to Earl and Juanita (Brett) Karnes in Pittsburg, Kansas. He attended Pittsburg schools where he graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1961. It was there he met the love of his life Jeannine Rose Sherman and she became his forever bride on June 6, 1964. They began their married life in Pittsburg eventually moving to Cherokee where they remained. He worked for McNally’s in Pittsburg for 25 years before retiring due to health reasons. Dan and Jean were foster parents for several years to many children.
Dan is survived by his loving wife Jean, of the home, by his mother Juanita Karnes of Pittsburg; sister DeAnna (Doug) Sipes of Pittsburg; his sister-in-laws, Sylvia Blythe of Cherokee and Kalyn (Don) Thomas of Wellsville. Also surviving him is dear friends David and Bonnie Brandt of Oswego. He was proceeded in death by his father Earl Karnes, nephew Stephen Sipes, great-nephew Seun Afonja and his in-laws Clarence and Eileen Sherman.
