David J. Peak, Jr., 83, of Girard, died at 11:30 P.M., Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at his residence in Girard. He was born May 23, 1925 in Girard, a son of David Thomas and Esther L. (Titmus) Peak. He grew up and attended schools in Girard. He served in the US Navy during W.W. II. He married Arlene Wheat on November 16, 1946 in Girard. She preceded him in death on July 24, 2006. He was a farmer and worked at So-Hy-Gro in Girard and in Pana, Illinois. He later worked as a carpenter for Stolte Construction Company of Girard and with Ted Wedell Construction Company of Brazilton, Kansas.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard and the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion of Girard.
Survivors are a daughter, Marilyn Meck of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and sons Richard Peak and his wife, Betty, of Girard, Jim Peak and his wife, Kathy, of Girard, and Jeff Peak of Girard; seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ann Heidrick of Girard; and a brother, Howard Peak and his wife, Kay, of Girard.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard with Fr. Donald R. Thissen as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery with Military Honors given by the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion of Girard.
The family will receive friends following a 7:00 P.M., Rosary on Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 10 A.M., Friday. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, “The Big Flag”, and Community Hospices of America and these may be left at the church or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
