Delores Wanda “Dee” Cox, age 74, Joplin, formerly of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, February 04, 2010 at her home with family by her side after a lengthy illness.
Dee was born May 24, 1935 in Emporia, Kansas, daughter of the late Harold V. Albin and Hazel M. Smith Albin. She graduated from Pittsburg High School, and worked at J.C. Penney for several years. She and her husband of 55 years, Don, moved to Joplin in 2001. She was an active member of Forest Park Baptist Church where she enjoyed her time as a leader in the AWANA Program, working mainly with the 4th grade students, and they were active in Ted Clowers’ Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, Dee was preceded in death by two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Lee Cox whom she married June 6, 1954 in Pittsburg, Kansas; son, Rodney Dean Cox and wife Debbie of Brenham, Texas; three grandchildren, Lauren Montgomery and husband Matthew, Kyle, and Tyler Cox all of Brenham.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Park Baptist Chapel with Dr. John Swadley officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg, Kansas.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Forest Park Baptist Church, or Multiple Myeloma Foundation.
