Devon Acie Tickel, 76, of Cherokee, KS, died at 11:24 pm, Monday December 10, 2012 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS of an illness.
He was born November 1, 1936 in Foster, MO the son of Acie and Bernice Moody Tickel. He had been a resident of Cherokee for most of his life.
Mr. Tickel attended Pittsburg State University and worked as an accountant for Calibrated Forms in Columbus, KS, prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherokee, KS and the Cherokee Gun Club.
Survivors include two sons Steve Tickel of KC, MO and Rev. Jamie Tickel of Carl Junction, MO; one daughter Mendy Grotheer of Pittsburg; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be 10 am Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., in Weir, KS, with his son the Rev. Jamie Tickel, pastor of the First Baptist Church, 633 S. Pearl Ave in Joplin, MO, officiating. Burial will be in the Cherokee City Cemetery in Cherokee, KS. The family will receive their friends from 7 to 8 pm Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St. in Weir, KS. Friends may call at the funeral home anytime after 2 pm Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church in Cherokee, KS in care of the funeral home.
