Merlin E. Wilson, 95, of rural McCune, Kansas, died at 7:10 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons, Kansas.
He was born March 13, 1913 at Pittsburg, to John Mitchell and Emma M. Honnaman Wilson. He attended local schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School.
On July 14, 1935, he was united in marriage to Gertrude M. Boore. She preceded him in death on February 17, 1999.
Mr. Wilson worked for Hull & Dillion Packing Company, Atkinson Armiture, Spencer Chemical and Katy Rail Road.
He attended the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg and later the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of rural Girard.
Membership was held in the IBEW.
Survivors include a son, Ken Mitchell Wilson of Rigeland, South Carolina; a daughter, Linda Dingus of West Mineral, Kansas; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Merlin Neil Wilson, a brother, Charles F. Wilson, infant twin siblings, and a grandchild.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday (May 17) at Brenner Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Ken Butts officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Hospice. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
