Virginia Louise Pierce, 85, formerly of 700 N. Water, Pittsburg, Kansas, died peacefully on April 9, 2009 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor in Topeka, Kansas, in the company of her two sons, Steve and David.
She was born in Stippville, Kansas March 4, 1924, to George and Elsie Heslop.  She grew up in Scammon, Kansas and attended grade school in Scammon and high school at the Cherokee County Community High School in Columbus, Kansas.
Virginia married Thomas H. (“Hillard”) Pierce on November 22, 1947, at Pittsburg.  He preceded her in death in 1995.
Virginia worked as a stenographer for Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas for many years before the family moved to Pittsburg where she worked for McNally Pittsburg and for the late Howard Millington.
She was a member of the Scammon Presbyterian church.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen Pierce of Louisburg, Kansas and David Pierce of Topeka; a sister, Frances Eleanor Heslop Martin of Overland Park; six grandchildren, Stephanie Pierce Anglin of Louisburg, Sheri Pierce James of Overland Park, Levi Pierce of San Diego, California, Livi Pierce of Lawrence, Cody Pierce of Lawrence, and Will Pierce of Manhattan, Kansas; four great grandchildren, Carter and Cooper Anglin, Molly James and her sister due to be born in May, two nephews, Michael Loy and Mark Loy, and two nieces, Linda Martin Vena and Lana Martin Bohannon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elsie Heslop, and a brother, Edward Heslop.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762 with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Monday at the funeral home. Friends may call the funeral home after 4pm on Monday.
